INDIANAPOLIS - Junior right-hander Tim Harmatys went the nine-inning distance and was masterful in a 3-2 victory over Indianapolis on Wednesday, giving the Lewis University baseball team a split of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.

In tossing the second nine-inning complete game of his collegiate career, Harmatys (2-2) did not walk a batter, allowed just one earned run and five hits and struck out three.

Indianapolis (11-15, 7-7 GLVC) scored both of its runs and collected three of its five hits in the second inning. After that, Harmatys allowed just three more baserunners on two singles and a hit-by-pitch.

Meanwhile, Lewis (4-19, 3-11 GLVC) chipped away, scoring single runs in the fourth and sixth to pull even and pushing across the winning tally in the ninth.

In the fourth, Mike Smith doubled with one out, went to third on a single by Bryan Druktenis and scored on Ryan Duran (Glendale Heights, Ill./Driscoll)'s sacrifice fly. The sixth inning saw Billy Duffy produce a leadoff single and advance station to station on Smith's sacrifice, a ground ball by Druktenis and Tim Bingham (Plainfield, Ill./Westland, Mi./John Glenn)'s two-out, pinch-hit RBI single.

John Benisek led off the decisive ninth with a single, and the Flyers made it first and second with nobody out when Ryan McManaman (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan)'s sacrifice attempt was thrown away by the Indianapolis pitcher.

After Joe Carbone advanced the runners with a sacrifice, Duffy doubled home Benisek with the winning run on a play in which McManaman was thrown out at the plate.

The Flyers registered 10 hits, a season high in a conference game. Smith and Bingham had two hits apiece to match Duffy's effort.

Indianapolis captured the seven-inning opener by a 3-2 score. Andy Hansen (0-4) pitched well for Lewis in defeat, allowing two earned runs and six hits while fanning four in six innings.

The Flyers trailed 2-0 before denting the scoreboard with a run in the fifth. Ryan Reynolds (Chicago, Ill./Gordon Tech)' leadoff single was followed by Carbone's sacrifice and Benisek's RBI double.

After Indianapolis matched that run in the bottom of the inning, Lewis threatened to tie the game in the seventh. Duran doubled with one out, scooted to third on a ground ball and scored on Carbone's single, but Greyhounds' reliever Kyle Wilson came on to record the final out and notch his third save of the season.

The Flyers host Missouri-Rolla in a three-game GLVC series this weekend. Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game begin at noon.
