Box Score

FLORENCE, Ky. - Chris Brigham collected a career-high three hits (3-for-3) and Ryan Duran hit his first collegiate home run Friday in the Lewis baseball team's 8-3 loss to Northern Kentucky in game one of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.

Lewis managed just three hits, including a Brian Clancy double, in a 5-0 loss in the nightcap.

The Flyers (4-26, 3-17 GLVC) outhit the Norse (14-18, 12-8 GLVC) 10-9 in the seven-inning opener, but a five-run NKU second inning was the difference.

Lewis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Tim Bingham struck out but reached on a passed ball, then moved station to station on singles by Duran, Brigham and John Benisek. The hits by Brigham and Benisek came with two outs.

After NKU made it 6-1 with a single tally in the third, Lewis struck for two runs in the fourth. Following Duran's leadoff homer, Ryan Reynolds and Brigham singled and advanced on Benisek's sacrifice. Ryan McManaman (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan)'s sacrifice fly plated Reynolds, but Brigham was gunned down at third to squelch the rally.

Northern Kentucky added two insurance runs in its half of the fourth.

In game two, Lewis starter Adam Stabosz allowed just three earned runs, five hits and two walks in seven innings. In addition to Clancy's double, Duran recorded a single to complete a three-hit afternoon.

Lewis and NKU conclude the series Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
