ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis Flyers defeated the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers 3-1 (28-30, 30-23, 30-22, 31-29) on Tuesday night at Neil Carey Arena.
The Rangers took game one, but the Flyers led throughout most of the game. Aside from a 1-0 lead the Rangers didn't lead until they took a 29-28 advantage late in the game.
Game three saw a furious rally by the Flyers. The Rangers jumped out to a 13-7 lead with the help of a 9-0 run. With the score 18-14 in favor of Wisconsin-Parkside, the Flyers went on a run of their own, outscoring the Rangers 16-4 to close out the match.
In game four it looked like the Flyers were going to put the match away when they held a 29-27 lead. But the Rangers rallied to tie it at 29 and make it interesting. Then Flyers' senior Andrea Morrone stepped up and recorded a big kill to give the Flyers a 30-29 advantage. An error by Wisconsin-Parkside gave the Flyers their 31st point and the match.
The Flyers saw four players reach double-digits in kills. Sophomore Stephanie Sagat led the team with 16. Sophomore Kim Richards had 13. Freshman Lauren Seliga recorded her first career kill-dig double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs. Morrone had 11 kills, nine digs and a season high 56 assists.
Freshman Ashlee Lindish led the Flyers with 20 digs. Junior Lauren Hatter recorded her season high in digs with 13.
The Flyers out-hit the Rangers .227-.181 but were out-blocked 7.0-5.0.
The Rangers' Jackie Nehls had a match high 27 digs. Kristin Schmidt notched 12 kills and 11 digs. Katie Krohn had 46 assists.
The Flyers improved to 10-2 (2-1 GLVC) and the Rangers fell to 6-3 (0-3).
The Flyers play Friday at Bellarmine and Saturday at Northern Kentucky. They return home to face Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.
