Junior Jason Genova netted career highs with 36 points and eight 3-pointers to lead Lewis 87-77 over Southern Indiana in a Great Lakes Valley Conference road game.
Junior Brandon Dagans hit a trey to put the Flyers up 17-12 with 16:50 remaining in the first half but Southern Indiana responded with a 10-0 run to take a five point lead of their own. Genova hit his second 3-pointer of the game with 14:26 remaining to get the Flyers back within two points at 17-15. Southern Indiana would increase their lead to nine points later in the half but the Flyers responded and took the lead back at 40-39 on a Dagans trey with 1:12 remaining. The Flyers would finish a first half that featured seven lead changes, tied at 42.
The Flyers took control of the game early in the second half with a 26-6 run. The offensive burst turned a three point defect into a 17 point lead at 73-56 with 9:37 remaining. During the run Genova was unstoppable, hitting four 3-pointers and adding a dunk for good measure. Genova would finish with 20 points in the second half. Senior Stephan Bolt scored 13 of his 19 points in the second half and added 11 rebounds to notch his tenth double-double of the season. He was 9-of-9 from the free throw line, including making five in the second half to help put the game away.
Dagans finished with 16 points, including a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. Genova's 36 points came on 8-of-14 from long range. Freshman Lonnie Lawrence added 10 boards and eight points.
Norman Plummer had 23 points and Darren Cloud had 22 for Southern Indiana. The Screaming Eagles fell to 9-4 (3-2 GLVC) while the Flyers improved to 11-3 (4-2 GLVC).
Lewis hosts Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday and Missouri S&T on Saturday.
