Flyers Control Bobcats

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis Flyers swept the Lees-McRae Bobcats (30-18, 30-15, 30-28) on Friday night in a non-conference match. The victory improved the Flyers to 2-1 and sets the stage for Saturday's match against No. 1 BYU at Neil Carey Arena at 7 p.m.

The Flyers pulled away early in game one thanks to a 4-0 run that gave the Flyers a 12-6 lead. Lewis added 5-0 and 4-0 runs to cement the game one victory. Juniors David Kelnhofer and Billy Sahagian each notched four of their six kills in the first game. Sahagian's kills were often powerful strikes that ignited the Spirit Week crowd.

Lewis stayed strong in game two, scoring the first five points of the game to force the Bobcats to call a timeout. Senior Jared Dayton was the star of the game, notching five of his six kills in the second game. The Flyers would score the final three points of the game to double up the Bobcats at 30-15.

The Flyers again jumped out to a sizable lead at 15-9 but the Bobcats rallied to get within one point at 26-25. The Flyers traded points with the Bobcats and won the match after a serve by the Bobcats' Jeremy Evans went long. Freshman Brian Muesenfechter had four kills and freshman Matt Gallik had three in the game. Senior David Kyner had two solo blocks and an assisted block.

For the match junior Mike Iandolo had 20 assists, three aces, three block assists and one solo. Dayton hit .417 to help the Flyers out-hit the Bobcats .342 to -.067 for the match. Lewis out-blocked Lees-McRae 9.5 to 4.0.

Lees-McRae's Colin Kelly had a match-high 12 kills. The Bobcats fell to 0-1
