Fayette, Iowa - Junior Erin Beddows (Ada, Mich./Lowell) scored her first career goal in Lewis' 2-1 non-conference setback at Upper Iowa on Wednesday afternoon.

Upper Iowa quickly took the upper hand, scoring just 29 seconds into the game. Allison Clark scored from 10 yards out, assisted by Leslie Willson.

Lewis fought back to tie it up when Beddows scored on a free kick at 24:27. Just over two minutes later Upper Iowa took the lead right back after Amy Campbell scored from eight yards out.

The Flyers had numerous crosses and threats in the second half, but couldn't put one in the back of the net.

"When you have a bad start like we did, teams are able to defend and make it difficult to score," head coach Chris Koenig said. "Regardless of the number of chances we had, all they had to do was defend with a lead. That is why you can't start a game like that on the road."

Lewis held dominating edges in shots (16-7), shots on goal (7-4) and corner kicks (6-2). Sophomore Jessica Summers-Hernandez (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) had two shots on goal. Freshman Allison Schieffer (Channahon, Ill./Minooka) notched three shots on goal.

The Flyers fall to 4-5. Upper Iowa is now 5-4-1. Lewis returns to conference play on Sunday at Kentucky Wesleyan.
