Fayette, Iowa - With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, Lewis junior forward Nestor Hernandez (Berwyn, Ill./Morton West) converted a rebound into the winning score as the Flyers men's soccer team extended their winning streak to four games with the 2-1 non-conference victory over host Upper Iowa at Pattison Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Hernandez leads the Flyers with seven goals on the season.
With the victory, Lewis improves to 8-1 on the campaign, while the Peacocks drop to 5-6-1 on the season.
Lewis senior midfielder Cory Mastey (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) opened up the scoring on the afternoon as he converted a penalty kick at the 32:10 mark of the first period.
Upper Iowa tied the game soon after Mastey's score as Jason Olsgard scored from long distance at the 35:41 mark.
Lewis senior goalkeeper Anthony Szymel (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) made six saves on the afternoon for his eighth win of the season.
The Flyers are back in action on Sunday (Oct. 5) as they travel to Owensboro, Kentucky to square off with Kentucky Wesleyan at 12 p.m.
