ROLLA, Mo. – No. 18 Lewis swept (25-14, 25-21, 25-16) Missouri S&T on Saturday for the Flyers’ 17th consecutive victory, tying a program record. The win also gave head coach Lorelee Smith her 50th career victory in less than two seasons at Lewis.

The Flyers will try to top the 2002 squad’s 17 match-win streak on Tuesday when they travel to Indianapolis for a key Great Lakes Valley Conference match.

Despite playing nine sets in the last two days, the Flyers were able to earn the key victory over Missouri S&T in just three sets.

“After going five last night, I was afraid we would be tired. But we sucked it up and played well,” Smith said. “We wanted to win in three and went out and got it.”

Smith played 12 players, including several underclassmen. Freshman Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence) played all three sets, recording a match-high 15 digs and four kills. Freshman Hannah Koeneman (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) hit the ball five times, all for kills.

“Colleen was fabulous. She used her quickness in the back and her great vertical in the front, too,” Smith said. “The first ball Hannah touched went straight down to get her perfect percentage going.”

In two sets, junior Stephanie Sagat (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) had a team-high six kills. Senior Lauren Hatter (Avon, Ind./Avon) recorded double-digit digs for the fifth time in six matches with 10. She also added two aces.

Lewis had eight aces to the Lady Miners’ two. The Flyers out-hit Missouri S&T .230 to .022. Lewis was especially effective in the first set, making only one hitting error. The Lady Miners led early in set three, but the Flyers used an 11-3 run to turn a 12-10 deficit into a 21-15 advantage.

The Flyers stand at 18-3 (10-0 GLVC) while the Lady Miners are now 5-17 (3-9 GLVC).
