Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. – Senior leadership is often paramount to any basketball team’s success

If Sunday’s night’s performance is any indication, good things lie ahead for the Lewis University men’s basketball team as seniors Brandon Dagans (Harvey, Ill./Thornton), Jason Genova (Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick/Saint Xavier) and Mike Robinson (Chicago, Ill./Hales Franciscan/Eastern Illinois) combined for 64 points to lead the Flyers to the 83-66 non-conference victory over Michigan Tech at Bud Cooper Gymnasium on Sunday evening.

With the victory, Lewis improves to 2-0 overall, while the Huskies fall to 1-1 on the season.

The Flyers shot 51.7% (31-for-60) from the field, including a torrid 61.3% (19-for-31) in the second half, while Michigan Tech shot 35.1% (20-for-57) from the floor.

“We played well tonight,” Lewis University head men’s basketball coach Scott Trost said. “We moved the ball well, passed up some good shots for some great shots. We played well offensively, and if not for a few three-pointers at the end of the game, our defense was pretty solid for the most part.”

Dagans scored a game-high 30 points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds, while Genova knocked down five three-pointers and finished with 20 points. Robinson finished with 14 points and four rebounds.

Michigan Tech guard Robby Springborn topped the Huskies with 21 points, including four three-pointers.

Lewis is back in action on Wednesday (Nov. 19) evening, as the Flyers travel to Michigan to square off with Hillsdale for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off.

A Catholic University sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The mid-sized university is being honored for the fifth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
