HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The red-hot Lewis offense continued its onslaught on Saturday, as the Flyers destroyed Northern Kentucky 9-1 and 10-0 in a pair of run-rule contests.

Ten different Flyers recorded at least one of the Flyers' 20 total hits in the two games.

Senior Mallory Paine, junior Kelly Dianis and freshman Kayla Smith led the way for the Flyers at the plate. Paine had a 3-for-5 day with five RBI and three runs. Dianis went 4-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored, and Smith had three hits with two RBI and four runs scored. Senior Carla Musillo and juniors Jessica Beck and Lisa Gartland each added two hits apiece.

Game one was tied 1-1 in the third when the Flyers exploded for seven runs. The big blow of the inning was a grand slam by Paine. It was the 18th career homer for Paine, one away from matching a school record. She also is nine RBI shy of the Lewis career record.

A run-scoring double by Dianis in the bottom of the fifth ended the game.

Junior Courtney Lyons (11-3) picked up the win in the circle. She struck out six while allowing just three hits.

Game two went scoreless for the first three and a half innings until Lewis put a 10-spot on the board in the bottom of the fourth. The Flyers sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning, hitting five doubles during the frame.

Paine led off the inning with a double and later added an RBI single. Freshman Jessica Jennings notched her first collegiate hit in a pinch-hitting role and later scored when pinch-hitter Stephanie Harmon smacked a two-RBI double. Dianis and Smith also had a two-RBI doubles, and Gartland added another RBI double.

In the circle, freshman Diana Pickrum (4-0) collected her second straight complete-game shutout. She fanned five while allowing four hits. Pickrum has given up just one earned run over her last 26 innings pitched and lowered her season ERA to 1.70.

The Flyers (18-8, 6-0) have scored 34 runs over their last 22 innings of play. The wins on Saturday were the team's eighth and ninth in a row. Since starting the season 1-6, Lewis has gone 17-2.

As was the case on Friday at Bellarmine, Lewis was the home team on the scoreboard at Northern Kentucky since the contests were originally scheduled to be played at Lewis but moved at the last minute to avoid inclement weather and a threat of cancellation.

The Flyers resume action on Saturday at a tournament at Winona State.
