Flyers Edged Twice In Doubleheader To Saint Joseph's

RENSSELAER, Ind. - Senior Bryan Druktenis had three hits and an RBI on the day, but the Flyers fell to No. 17 Saint Joseph's 10-3 and 6-1 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

Saint Joseph's put a run on the board in the bottom of the first in game one after the Flyers left the bases loaded in the top half. But Lewis got on the board in the second. Senior Billy Duffy singled on the first pitch he saw to score freshman Richard Forkin.

It stayed tied at one till Saint Joseph's put three on the board in the bottom of the fourth. The Pumas added one in the fifth and then five in the sixth to extend their lead to 10-1.

The Flyers scored two in the top of the seventh, with junior Chris McCall and sophomore Ryan McManaman recording the RBI.

Senior Tim Harmatys earned the loss (1-1), allowing five earned runs and eight hits in 5.1 innings. Blaine Cravens (4-0) got the victory for Saint Joseph's, pitching 5.2 innings.

In game two, the Pumas scored twice in the first and third and added runs in the second and fourth hold a 6-0 lead after four innings. Lewis scored their only run of the game in the sixth when Druktenis grounded into a double play but knocked in junior Chris Brigham. Brigham got on base three times in the game, all by being hit by a pitch. Senior Ryan Duran had two hits and a walk.

SeniorAdam Stabosz fell to 1-3, allowing five earned runs and nine hits in 6.0 innings. Chris Chojnowski (4-0) received the win for Saint Joseph's.

The Pumas improve to 23-4 (11-1 GLVC) while the Flyers fall to 7-10 (2-6 GLVC).

Lewis hosts Saint Xavier in a doubleheader at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
