Flyers Fall In Extras

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - Freshman Mike Vucsko went 3-for-6 with a run scored, but Lewis fell to Assumption 7-5 in 10 innings on Wednesday.

The Flyers (2-4) led 2-0 after scoring one in the first and fourth innings. Assumption got a run in the top of the fifth before the Flyers put two on the board in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-1 lead. Assumption added a run in the sixth and seventh to get within one and then scored two in the eighth to grab a 5-4 lead.

In the bottom eighth senior Brian Clancy led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Freshman Ryan Koerner laid a bunt down to sacrifice Clancy to second. Two batters latter junior Chris Brigham delivered a two-out RBI single to knot the game at five. But Assumption scored two runs in the top of the tenth to take the game.

Junior Chris McCall finished 2-4 with a run scored. Senior Billy Duffy was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Sophomore Ryan McManaman and senior Ryan Duran each had an RBI.

Senior Jon Crettol pitched six innings, allowing two earned runs and nine hits. He struck out four and allowed no walks. Senior Adam Stabosz pitched the seventh, allowing one earned run. McManaman pitched the eighth and ninth, giving up two runs, four hits and a walk while striking out one. Sophomore Chris Williams earned the loss (0-1), giving up two runs in the tenth.

Lewis plays Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Thursday.
