ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -
Senior Mallory Paine obliterated the Lewis career record for home runs and RBI by belting three home runs and collecting nine RBI as the No. 15 Flyers swept Kentucky Wesleyan 11-2 and 8-0 in a pair of run-rule contests.
Paine's three home runs all came in the first game. She was 4-for-4 with seven RBI, and became the first Flyer to ever hit three homers in a single game. She collected the RBI record in game two when she smacked a double that scored two runners in the second inning.
Paine now has 22 home runs and 131 RBI for her career, topping Jill Karwoski (1998-01) who previously led both categories with 19 homers and 129 RBI.
The Flyers' offense totaled 22 hits in the doubleheader sweep. Also homering for the Flyers were junior Lisa Gartland in game one and junior Kelly Dianis and freshman Stephanie Harmon in game two.
Gartland's homer, her sixth of the season, was a three-run blast in the first inning. Dianis' long ball scored two to make it 8-0 in the fourth inning of game two, and Harmon's three-run shot came in the third inning of game two. Dianis and Harmon also doubled in game two. Dianis was 3-for-5 for the afternoon, and Harmon went 3-for-4.
Junior Carissa Castonzo and freshman Kayla Smith each collected two hits against the Panthers. Smith led off game one with a stand-up triple after roping one into the corner in right field. Freshman Stephanie Trapp added a 3-for-5 day at the plate.
Junior Courtney Lyons (14-4) picked up the game-one win. She gave up just two hits while striking out nine batters in the five-inning complete-game effort.
