ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Junior Courtney Lyons and freshman Diana Pickrum held Southern Indiana's high-powered offense to just three hits while belting three home runs of their own in a pair of 8-0 run-rule wins, Monday afternoon at the Lewis softball field.

Lyons (15-4) earned the win in game one, matching her single-season career high for victories. She allowed just one hit, a bunt-single in the third inning, while striking out two batters.

Lyons also led off the Flyers' fourth inning with her second home run of the season. That made the score 6-0. A run-scoring single by senior Carla Musillo followed by a RBI-groundout by junior Kelly Dianis pushed the score past the run-rule mark.

Lewis scored its first two runs in the second with a two-out RBI-single by junior Jessica Beck and a passed ball during sophomore Kara Harmatys (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport)' at-bat. Junior Carissa Castonzo smacked a three-run homer in the third to make it 5-0 Lewis.

Pickrum (7-0) yielded just two hits while striking out three batters in the game-two shutout. The Flyers were leading 1-0 when she connected for a two-run homer in the third inning, the first of her career.

Pickrum hit her second homer of the game in the fifth, following a lead-off blast by freshman Stephanie Harmon. Harmon's homer, her fourth of the year, came on the first pitch of the fifth inning. Southern Indiana changed pitchers following the round-tripper, and Pickrum sent the first pitch from the new pitcher out of the park.

Senior Mallory Paine ended the game later in the inning with long solo home run to left center. It was her fourth homer in her last nine at-bats.

Harmatys notched an RBI single for Lewis' first run of game two, and junior Lisa Gartland doubled in the Flyers' second run ahead of Pickrum's homer in the third.

The Flyers (28-10, 13-1 GLVC) have won five straight and 19 of their last 21. The doubleheader sweep of Southern Indiana was Lewis' third and fourth straight wins via the run-rule. The Flyers have outscored their opponents 40-2 during their current five-game winning streak.

Lewis resumes action on Wednesday with a conference doubleheader against Wisconsin-Parkside at the Lewis softball field.
