ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Mike Smith had a two run homer in game one, but the Saint Xavier Cougars defeated Lewis 3-2 and 12-3 in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon.

Smith's home run scored senior Billy Duffy who was hit by a pitch. The Cougars scored two runs in the top of the second on RBI by Mark Siefert and Tony Testin. Senior Jon Crettol got out of a bases loaded jam by getting Zach Clements to pop up to right field.

In the top of the fifth Siefert singled with two outs to score John O'Brien and give the Cougars a lead they would never relinquish. The Flyers best scoring chance came in the bottom of the fifth when sophomore Ryan McManaman singled and freshman Mike Vucsko walked. But Duffy and Smith struck out to end the threat.

James Williams (4-1) pitched six innings to get a victory. Jayson Koehn earned a save. Senior Jon Crettol fell to 1-2, allowing two earned runs in five innings.

Just like game one, the Flyers got on the board early in game two. Senior Bryan Druktenis hit a line drive to left that the left fielder couldn't handle to load the bases. Senior Ryan Duran walked to knock in the first run of the game. Freshman Richard Forkin singled to knock in sophomore Chris Brigham. Sophomore Ryan McManaman hit into a fielders choice to score Druktenis for the Flyers' third run.

The Cougars responded with five runs in the top of the second, two in the third, three in the fourth and one in each the fifth and sixth.

Chris Williams (1-2) absorbed the loss for the Flyers, Joe Branigan improved to 2-1 for Saint Xavier.

Lewis is now 7-12 while Saint Xavier is 14-13. The Flyers return to conference play this weekend when they host Northern Kentucky on Saturday at noon and Sunday at 1 p.m.
