April 5, 2008

Box Score

ROLLA, Mo. - Juniors Kelly Dianis and Carissa Castonzo each collected three RBIs, and junior pitcher Courtney Lyons notched a save and a win as the No. 21 Lewis Flyers swept a doubleheader over Missouri S&T 4-3 and 6-2, Saturday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

The Flyers (23-9) improved to a perfect 8-0 in conference play to maintain their hold of first place.

Dianis lifted the Flyers to victory in game one by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Her double in the third staked the Flyers to a 2-0 lead, and she added a run-scoring single up the middle in the fifth.

Freshman Diana Pickrum (6-0) earned the win after going six innings. Lyons came on in the seventh with two on and nobody out, but she got a double play and a foul pop to preserve the Lewis win.

Castonzo went 2-for-3 in game two. She collected two RBIs in the Flyers' three-run fourth after doubling down the left field line. She also homered to lead off the sixth inning.

Freshman Kayla Smith also went deep for Lewis, hitting a solo shot to left to begin the fifth inning. Junior Lisa Gartland added an RBI-single in the three-run fourth.

The Flyers' offense provided more than enough support for Lyons (13-3), who went the distance for the win. She struck out seven while walking just two batters.

Lewis returns to action on Sunday, playing a doubleheader at Missouri-St. Louis.
