Flyers Swept, Hosts NKU Tomorrow At Noon

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Mike Smith had three hits, an RBI and a walk on the day but Northern Kentucky defeated Lewis 15-5 and 7-3 on Saturday afternoon in a conference doubleheader. The Flyers and Norse will play a doubleheader again tomorrow at noon, instead of the 1 p.m. originally announced start.

The Norse scored two in the top of the first in game one, but the Flyers responded by loading the bases with no outs in the bottom half. The Flyers pushed across one with an infield single by senior Billy Duffy to get the score within one.

Northern Kentucky added three runs in the top of the third. In the bottom of the third Lewis scored one on an RBI double by senior Bryan Druktenis. His two base hit scored junior Chris Brigham who led off the inning with a single.

The Norse then scored four in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the seventh and three in the eighth. Lewis added three in the eighth as well. Freshman Richard Forkin had an RBI single to score Duffy. Sophomore Tim Bingham scored on a balk and sophomore Ryan McManaman knocked in Forkin.

Ryan Schmidt (5-0) was the winner, senior Adam Stabosz (1-4) took the loss.

The Flyers scored a run in the bottom of the first in game two to take an early 1-0 lead. Freshman Mike Vucsko led off by getting on base via an error. Duffy sacrificed him to second and Smith knocked him home with a double.

The Norse scored the next seven runs. Kevin Dusold had two home runs and Evan McDole homered as well for Northern Kentucky.

The Flyers made it closer with a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth. Juniors Ryan Reynolds and Jeffrey Ithal each had an RBI in the inning.

Brandon Slusher (3-1) earned the win while freshman Charles Gille (1-3) was the loser.

The Flyers fell to 7-14 (2-8) and Northern Kentucky improved to 16-13 (10-3 GLVC). They will play again Sunday at noon.
