Game Two Box Score
ST. LOUIS, Mo. -
Senior Mallory Paine matched the Lewis home run record by belting the 19th of her career as the No. 21 Flyers beat Missouri-St. Louis 5-2 in game two of a doubleheader. The Tritons blanked the Flyers 2-0 in the opener.
Paine's homer, a two-run shot in the third inning of game two, tied her with Jill Karwoski (1998-01) for the most home runs in program history. While Paine was the first to reach No. 19 since Karwoski, two other Flyers are hot on her tail. Junior Kelly Dianis is third on the all-time list with 18, and junior Lisa Gartland, who also homered on Sunday, is next on the list with 16 career long balls.
Paine's blast gave the Flyers (24-10, 9-1) their first two runs of the day, after the Flyers were shutout for just the second time all season in the first game.
After Missouri-St. Louis rallied to tie the game 2--2, Lewis regained the lead for good in the sixth when Gartland clubbed her team-leading fifth homer of the season. The two-run bomb scored Dianis who singled to start the inning.
Junior Julie Wingerter (2-2) earned the win after entering in relief and pitching three
scoreless innings.
Paine finished the game 3-for-3. Dianis also had three hits for the day, including a double. Senior Carla Musillo contributed three hits on the day, and freshman Kayla Smith went 2-for-3 in the first game.
Junior Courtney Lyons (13-4) was the hard-luck loser in game one. She allowed just three hits while striking out 11 batters.
The Flyers return to action on Saturday, hosting Southern Indiana at Noon.
