ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -
Junior Chris Brigham had two doubles and an RBI in game one, but the Flyers fell to Northern Kentucky 10-2 and 10-0 on Sunday afternoon in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.
The Flyers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one. It was the fifth straight game the Flyers had scored in their first at bat. Brigham doubled to score freshman Mike Vucsko who led the inning off with a single.
After NKU scored two in the top of the second, the Flyers tied it in the bottom half of the inning when Vucsko knocked in Junior Tim Bingham.
However Northern Kentucky would score five in the third and three in the fifth to take the opening game.
Vucsko had two hits in the game. Senior Ryan Duran took the loss (0-3) in five innings of work. Vucsko pitched the final two innings, getting all six out in order. Dave Middendorf improved to 2-1 for the Norse.
Senior Mike Smith had two hits in game two, but that was just about all the offense the Flyers could muster against Norse pitcher Eric Braeckel (2-2). Senior Tim Harmatys (2-1) earned the loss for the Flyers with 4.1 innings of work. The game was called in the seventh due the ten run rule.
The Flyers fall to 7-16 (2-10 GLVC) while Northern Kentucky improves to 19-13 (12-3 GLVC). Lewis is back in action on Tuesday when the Flyers host Wisconsin-Parkside at 3 p.m. for a GLVC doubleheader.
