ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -
Senior Jon Guzzo threw a six-hit complete game shutout in game one of the Flyers' sweep of Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Wisconsin-Parkside on Wednesday afternoon. Lewis took the first game 6-0 and the second 12-3.
Guzzo (3-0) was ahead of batters all day, striking out nine Rangers. His performance was the highlight of a solid day of Lewis pitching that allowed no walks. Senior Jon Crettol earned the win (2-2) in game two, allowing four hits and one earned run in five innings of work. Senior Adam Stabosz came in for Crettol and retired all three batters he faced. Freshman Mike Vucsko allowed a home run to start the top of the seventh, but induced a game ending double play for the victory.
Senior Bryan Druktenis had four RBI in game one, singling in two in the first, one in the third and earning an RBI on a fielder's choice in the seventh. He also stole second in the third and eventually came around to score.
Vucsko had two hits and two runs scored in game one and scored twice in game two. Senior Billy Duffy knocked in Vucsko in the bottom of the first inning of game two to tie at one after the Rangers scored in the top of the fifth. The Flyers' run in the bottom of the first marked the seventh time in eight games they scored in their first at bat.
Wisconsin-Parkside added one in the top of the second and would hold a 2-1 lead till the Flyers scored seven in the bottom of the fourth. Junior Chris Brigham and freshman Richard Forkin each had two RBI singles in the fourth. Vucsko, senior Mike Smith and Druktenis each had an RBI in the inning.
The Flyers added four runs in the sixth with Duffy, Forkin, Bingham and Fedoruk each recording an RBI.
The Flyers improve to 9-16 (4-10 GLVC) while the Rangers fall to 2-20 (0-13 GLVC). It is a quick turnaround for the Flyers as they host Division I Chicago State tomorrow at 3 p.m.
