Hernandez Records Hat Trick

RENSSELAER, Ind. - Junior Nestor Hernandez scored three goals in No. 9 Lewis' 5-2 victory over Saint Joseph's in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game on Sunday.

The scoring was fast and furious in the first half. Senior Cory Mastey scored the first goal at 3:18. He headed in a corner kick from junior Kipp Cartwright. Just 13 seconds later Hernandez scored his first of the game, also assisted by Cartwright.

At 28:06 Greg Gehrig put the Pumas within one by connecting on a penalty kick. Less than three minutes later Jordan Jacobs tied it up with a header off a corner from Bojan Adler. Just over six minutes later Hernadez scored his second of the day, assisted by junior Charlie Bucio. Less than four minutes later the two combined again to make it 4-2 into halftime.

The Lewis defense tightened up in the second half, allowing only one Saint Joseph's shot in the final period. Senior Jorge De Jesus scored at 77:50 to make the final tally 5-2.

Lewis held a 14-3 edge in corner kicks and 18-6 advantage in shots. The Flyers are now 5-1-0 (2-1-0 GLVC). Saint Joseph's stands at 2-5-2 (0-2-1 GLVC).

The Flyers host Wisconsin-Parkside at noon on Friday.
