ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - No. 11 women's volleyball earned the right to host the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament by virtue of defeating Drury 3-1 (25-27, 25-18, 25-21, 25-21) Friday night at Neil Carey Arena.

The win improves Lewis to 27-3 and 13-0 in the GLVC. It gives the Flyers the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for the tournament. It also crowns Lewis as regular season champions.

Senior Stephanie Sagat (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) led Lewis with 15 kills. Sophomore Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence) swung 13 times with nine kills and no errors to hit .692. Senior Ashlee Lindish (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) and sophomore Kelly McConkey (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) totaled 13 digs each.

The Flyers trailed the opening set 24-20 only to rally back and earn set point at 25-24. However, three-straight Drury points gave the set to the Panthers.

Lewis opened the second set on an 8-2 run and never looked back. The third set was tied at 11 until a 5-1 Flyers run helped give Lewis separation. The fourth set was tied at 15 when Lewis scored four straight points. The Flyers held on for a 25-21 win.

"This group of seniors, one way or another, have now been conference champs all four years," head coach Lorelee Smith said. "That's why getting that 25th point was huge. As a group, this senior class has more tenacity than most full teams."

Drury falls to 15-13 (7-6 GLVC). Lewis hosts Rockhurst on Saturday at 3 p.m. The GLVC Tournament will be held at Neil Carey Arena Friday, November 13 to Sunday, November 15.

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields.
