Men's Basketball: Lewis 90, Purdue Calumet 71 in PDF Format

Romeoville, Ill. - Sophomore forward Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) garnered a career-high 26 points on 11-for-13 shooting, including a game-high nine rebounds to propel the Lewis University men's basketball team to their fourth-straight win with the 90-71 non-conference victory over Purdue Calumet at Neil Carey Arena on Tuesday (Dec. 22) night.

"Coming off of a 10-day layoff, it's good to get a win," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "I thought at times, our effort was okay and defensively we held them to 39 percent, we out-rebounded them, had a positive assist/turnover ratio and we made more free throws than they took. We can take a lot of positives from this game tonight."

Toth was one of four Flyers who posted in double-figures, as junior guard Dennis Thomas, Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) added 19 points and sophomore center Marty Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds. Junior transfer Donald Rowe (Kansas City, Kan./Wyandotte/Independence C.C.) impressed in his debut, as he had 16 points off the bench for the Flyers on 8-for-14 shooting.

With the victory, Lewis improves to 8-2 on the season, while this contest counted as an exhibition game for Purdue Calumet.

Lewis picked up team season-highs in several categories on Tuesday night, including points (90), field goals (35) and rebounds (48).

Purdue Calumet had five players score in double figures on the evening, led by 13 points apiece from reserves Jordan Champion and Brant Stockamp. Peregrine starters Neal Hudson and Aaron Evans each scored 12 points, while Kedric Williams collected 10 points and a team-best seven rebounds.

The Flyers return to action next Tuesday (Dec. 29), as Lewis welcomes Trinity Christian to Neil Carey Arena for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
