Romeoville, Ill. - Missouri-St. Louis sophomore guard Beaumont Beasley led four Triton players in double-figures with 20 points to help lift UMSL to the 73-62 road victory over the Lewis University men's basketball team in the Flyers' Great Lakes Valley Conference 0pener at Neil Carey Arena on Thursday (Dec. 3) night.
UMSL sophomore center Zach Redel added 15 points for the Tritons, followed by 14 points from junior forward Ryan Lawrence and 10 points off the bench from Sam Buxton.
"We came out flat at home and we can't do that," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "We were out of rhythm and out of sync. (UMSL) played better than us tonight and they deserved to win."
With the victory, UMSL remains undefeated at 6-0 and moves to 1-0 in conference play, while the Flyers fall to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in GLVC action.
Lewis sophomore guard Chris McClellan (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Wheeling) topped the Flyers with a career-high 22 points, including four three-pointers. Sophomore center Marty Strus (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) chipped in a double-double of 10 points and ten rebounds.
UMSL made the most of their possessions on Thursday night, as they only turned the ball over six times. They also enjoyed a sizeable advantage down low, as they scored 36 points in the paint, to Lewis' 20 tallies.
The Tritons also held Lewis' top scorer Dennis Thomas (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) to two points on the evening. Thomas entered Thursday's contest averaging 17.8 points-per-contest.
