ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Tim Bingham (Plainfield, Ill./Westland, Mi./John Glenn) had nine RBI, including knocking in all four of the Flyers' runs in game two, on Wednesday to help Lewis defeat UW-Parkside 10-4 and 4-2 at Brennan Field.
The Flyers jumped on the Rangers early in game one with four runs in the first inning. The big blow came off the bat of Bingham with the bases loaded. He rang a bases clearing double off the center field wall to give Lewis a 4-0 advantage. Junior Scott Householder (Berwyn, Ill./St. Josephs/Triton) singled in sophomore Mike Vucsko (Evergreen Park, Ill./Marist) two batters before to record the Flyers' first run.
"Tim is a streaky hitter when he is going we can ride him," head coach Tim McDonough said. "Hopefully he will stay hot and keep it going."
UW-Parkside scored two in the top of the second, but Lewis added four more in their half to make it 8-2 after two innings.
Bingham came up with the bases loaded again and this time hit a blooper to left field to force in two runs. Bingham hustled around first to turn the lightly hit ball into his second of three doubles in the game. Bingham and Householder then scored on a double by freshman Michael Wido (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South).
Lewis rounded out their scoring in the third with a single by senior Chris McCall (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest/College of DuPage CC) that scored freshman Cameron Anello (Homer Glen, Ill./Brother Rice) and Vucsko.
Senior Chris Brigham (Bolingbrook, Ill./Romeoville) (3-3) got the victory, allowing four earned runs on seven hits in four innings. Freshman Drew Hicks (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) pitched three scoreless innings to earn his first career save.
"When the wind is blowing out like it was today you worry about a cheap homerun bringing a team back in it," McDonough said. "But Drew went out and threw strikes to finish the job."
The Flyers helped out their hurlers by completing three double plays, including one to end the game.
UW-Parkside loaded the bases in the opening inning of game two but pushed across just one run against starter junior Joe Scumaci (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence/Triton).
The Rangers' 1-0 lead would be short lived however. Anello walked and McCall dropped a single just within the right field foul line to put two men on for Bingham. He proceeded to hit a long bomb to right center field, the deepest part of Brennan Field, that bounced off the top of the wall and over for his fifth home run of the season.
Bingham hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to score Anello. The Rangers added one in the fifth but could plate no more. Scumaci improved to 4-0 with a four hit, one earned run six inning performance.
Freshman Pat Lahey (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) pitched a scoreless seventh for his second save of the year.
UW-Parkside falls to 3-24. The Flyers move back above .500 to 13-12. Lewis hosts Southern Indiana in a pair of conference doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday at noon.
