Westwood, Kan. - Despite the continual solid efforts and two victories apiece from freshmen Uno Lapimaa (Talinn, Estonia/Tallina Audentese Erakooli) and Tonis Irdoja (Tallin, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare), the Lewis University men's tennis team was unable to overcome No. 31 Rockhurst, as the host Hawks claimed the 5-3 Great Lakes Valley Conference victory at Woodside Tennis Club on Friday morning.

Lapimaa, who is ranked 10th in the Midwest Region, earned the 6-4, 6-2 win over Rockhurst's Victor Klintcharov, who is ranked 8th in the region. Irdoja claimed a 6-3, 6-2 upset win over 12th ranked Arturo Baravalle. Lapimaa and Irdoja would also team up at No. 1 singles to defeat 5th ranked Ben and Zach Newell, 8-5.

"Uno and Tonis continue to do their part and show that they are among the best players in the GLVC," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said. "We need some of our other players to step up, as we are taking on the best team in the conference tomorrow in Drury, so we need to come out and perform at our best level."

With the victory, Rockhurst improves to 12-5 and 6-1 in GLVC play, while the visiting Flyers drop to 2-14 overall and 1-5 in conference action.

Lewis is back in action on Saturday morning, as they travel to Springfield, Mo., to square off with Drury for a 10 a.m. first serve.
