Romeoville, Ill. - There's no place like home.

The Lewis softball team returned home from a 10-game Great Lakes Valley Conference road trip and earned the 4-0, 10-1 (5 inn.) non-conference doubleheader sweep over Robert Morris College at the Lewis Softball Field on Wednesday evening.

"It's good to play at home again," Lewis University head softball coach George DiMatteo said. "We need to build some momentum heading into this weekend's series against Quincy. I was pleased that we were able to get some two-out hits that scored runs, but now we just have to work harder at getting on base earlier in the inning."

With the sweep, Lewis improves to 31-16 on the season, while the visiting Eagles drop to 25-20 on the campaign.

Robert Morris certainly aided the Flyers cause on Wednesday evening, as they surrendered a combined nine walks and four errors that led to seven unearned runs.

Lewis senior pitcher Courtney Lyons (San Pedro, Calif./San Pedro) earned the complete-game shutout victory in the opener, her seventh of the season. Lyons (10-9) allowed just three hits and struck out eight batters in the win.

Lyons was equally as proficient at the plate, as she went 2-for-4 and scored on a two-run double from junior second baseman Kara Harmatys (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lewis catcher Mary Giancarlo (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) added two hits in the opener.

In the nightcap, the Flyers had the upper hand from the get-go, as Robert Morris pitcher Paige Sinnett issued five first inning walks that led to four runs. Lewis would add six more tallies over the next two innings that helped them to the game-shortened victory. Flyer sophomore third baseman Stephanie Trapp (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) went 2-for-4 with four RBI, while senior shortstop Kelly Dianis (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, including a solo homer.

Lewis sophomore pitcher Diana Pickrum (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) improved her record to a team-best 10-1 with the complete-game one-hitter. Pickrum allowed just one run and fanned two batters in five innings of work.

The Flyers return to action tomorrow as they host Judson College for a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Lewis Softball Field.
