ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Senior Chris McCall (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest/College of DuPage CC) hit his first home run of the year, but Southern Indiana defeated Lewis 13-3 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference game on Friday afternoon at Brennan Field.
It was a 1-0 score in the sixth when the Screaming Eagles put four on the board. McCall hit his blast in the bottom half of the inning to make it 5-1. It was 7-1 when the Flyers scored two in the bottom half of the seventh to make it 7-3. McCall was at the plate with runners on second and third but fouled out far down the right field line to end the inning.
Southern Indiana added six more runs to make the final 13-3.
Freshman Pat Lahey (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) allowed six earned runs on nine hits in 6.2 innings. His record falls to 3-3.
McCall, junior Scott Householder (Berwyn, Ill./St. Josephs/Triton) and freshman Michael Wido (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) each had two of the Flyers' nine hits. Lewis was done in by six Southern Indiana home runs.
"I thought we hit the ball well," head coach Tim McDonough said. "But they took advantage of the long ball."
Southern Indiana improves to 23-8 (11-2 GLVC). Lewis falls to 13-13 (2-7 GLVC). Lewis and Southern Indiana play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
