QUINCY, Ill. - No. 12 Lewis Men's Volleyball won their 20th match of the year in a 30-18, 30-24, 30-25 sweep of Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association foe Quincy on Wednesday evening.
The 20th victory marks Lewis' second straight 20-win season.
Sophomore Brian Muesenfechter (Florissant, Mo./Christian Brothers) hit .500 with nine kills and five digs. Senior Drew Pickering (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa West) also had nine kills and five digs, adding four aces. Junior Nathan Klaas (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) totaled seven kills.
Nine different Flyers recorded kills.
"It was a good team win," head coach Dan Friend said. "We came out and hit .462 in the first game and we served well with eight aces."
All four of the Flyers' middle hitters, seniors Alex Vigansky (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) and Billy Sahagian (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett), junior Craig Boller (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett) and freshman Aaron Flick (Strongville, Ohio/St. Edward), saw action. They combined for 14 kills with just one hitting error to hit .565.
"Our middles as a group did a really nice job," Friend said.
Lewis out-hit Quincy .295 to .124.
Lewis controlled game the first two matches with ease but set three was a bit closer. Lewis led 21-19 before pulling away for the victory.
Quincy falls to 17-30 (0-8 MIVA). Lewis improves to 20-6 (6-2 MIVA). The Flyers are at Loyola-Chicago on Wednesday.
