ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's basketball won their third-straight game Thursday (Jan. 14) night as they defeated Rockhurst, 62-54 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action, thanks to a season-high 10 treys.
Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) scored a team-high 13 points, leading three Flyers in double figures.
Senior Kelly Dianis (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale) came out shooting strong the first three minutes of the game connecting on two 3-pointers as Lewis quickly jumped out to an 11-5 advantage over the Hawks but Rockhurst quickly responded with a 10-0 run with 10:18 left in the opening frame.
Junior Kelly Monaco (Chicago, Ill./Resurrection) scored six of her seven points on the half by connecting on a pair of trifectas to help the Flyers get back on track. Junior Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) continued her strong play scoring nine points and adding eight rebounds in the frame. Lewis finished the half with a ten point advantage, leading 35-25.
The Flyers continued their first half advantage into the second with the help of Murdock who scored 11 of her 13 points in the second.
Turpel finished her seventh double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
"We can rely on Jenny on the defensive end," head coach Lisa Carlsen said. "If a rebound is within her reach she will get it."
Monaco was the third Flyer in double figures, chipping in 10. Dianis finished with nine.
Chrissy Sarcone led Rockhurst with game-high 14 points.
Lewis improves to 9-7 (5-2 GLVC) on the year and Rockhust drops to 5-9 (1-6 GLVC).
The Flyers are back in action Saturday (Jan. 16) as they travel to take on the No. 3 ranked University of Indianapolis. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. (CST).
