HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The defending Great Lakes Valley Conference Champions, Northern Kentucky, scored four first half goals to defeat the Lewis women's soccer team 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.
The Norse's Amanda Mason had the first and fourth goals. Megan Frye scored the second tally for Northern Kentucky. Danielle Hogue assisted on the first two Norse scores. Claudia Bryant netted the third Northern Kentucky goal.
"NKU is the best team we've played all year," head coach Chris Koenig said. "They came out and went at us and they were rewarded for it.
"My disappointment is when you know that type of battle is front of you, you need to be willing to get after it also and we didn't handle the pressure well."
Freshman Arianna Nie (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) made five saves for Lewis after entering the game at halftime.
Lewis held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman Heidi Haller (Northville, Mich./Northville) and sophomore Bobbi Wydra (Lockport, Ill./Lockport/Aurora) each had a shot on goal for Lewis.
Northern Kentucky improves to 8-1-1 (7-1-0 GLVC). Lewis falls to 4-6-0 (4-5-0 GLVC). Lewis is at No. 12 UW-Parkside on Friday.
