ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Six Flyers recorded four or more kills for No. 11 Lewis as the Flyers swept Northern Kentucky (25-20, 25-19, 28-26) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match on Friday evening at Neil Carey Arena.

"From the start in warm-ups we did a flip flop from last weekend," head coach Lorelee Smith said. "We were pumped up and excited to play volleyball no matter what the play dictated. That atmosphere promotes aggressive serving and with a fast team like NKU you need to serve aggressive or you won't win."

Sophomore Jen Krumwiede (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial/IPFW) broke a 17-17 tie in the opening set, serving three-straight points to give Lewis a 20-17 advantage. Three more kills by the Flyers and a service ace by graduate student Adria Phillips (South Bend, Ind./Riley/Indiana) closed out the set for Lewis, 25-20.

The Flyers maintained a lead for much of the second set as Lewis totaled 20 digs in the frame. Phillips served four-straight points to give the Flyers an 18-12 lead they'd keep for the remainder of the set.

The third set was the closet, featuring 14 ties and nine lead changes. Lewis led 24-22 when the Norse scored two consecutive points to knot the game at 24. The Norse earned a set point of their own at 26-25, but following a long rally Krumwiede came up with a kill to knot the score at 26. Another Krumwiede kill and a block by junior Hannah Koeneman (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) and sophomore Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township/Nova Southeastern) ended the match.

Koeneman led Lewis with 10 kills. Senior setter Rachel Ruedi (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet Seymour) recorded 30 assists and four kills.

"Hannah did a good job in front and behind center," Smith said. "Which is something new for us."

"Rachel did a nice job of changing the offense and delivering when we needed her too."

Perschnick finished with eight kills. Sarah Drennen had a match-high 14 kills for Northern Kentucky.

With the win, the Flyers improve to 14-2 (6-1 GLVC) while the Norse drop to 13-8 (4-2 GLVC).

Lewis returns to action tomorrow afternoon, taking on Bellarmine for a 3 p.m. first serve.
