Romeoville, Ill. - With the holidays still upon us, the Lewis University men's basketball team was in a giving mood on Thursday (Dec. 30) night, as the Flyers dished out 27 assists and won their fourth-straight game in a 89-73 non-conference win over Trinity Christian at Neil Carey Arena.

The 27 assists was the most by a Flyer squad since at least 1999.

Lewis senior guard Dennis Thomas, Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis./Bradley Tech) led the Flyers with 21 points, including four three-pointers, and a career-high nine assists. Junior forward Matt Toth (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) came off the bench to score a season-high 19 points, while classmate Justin Jarosz (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport) chipped in 10 points. The Flyer bench outscored the Trolls, 42-13, on Thursday night.

With the victory, Lewis improves to 8-5 on the campaign, while Thursday night's contest served as an exhibition game for the visiting Trolls.

As a team, Lewis shot 56.3% (36-for-64) from the floor and 47.4% (9-for-19) from three-point range. Trinity Christian was 51.0% (26-for-51) from field goal range and 50.0% (10-for-20) from long distance.

Trinity Christian was led offensively by senior forward Jonathan Huizenga who also posted a game-high 21 points. Fellow forwards Matt Buren (17 points) and Josh Flikkema (11 points) also turned in double-digit outings for the Trolls.

"I think we were a bit rusty from the Christmas break," Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost said. "I'm glad we got this game out of the way. We did some good things offensively, but defensively we took a step back. For them to shoot 51.0% is unacceptable.

"The 27 assists on 36 baskets is a positive thing to see, but we have to play better if we expect to compete with the best teams in our league."

Lewis returns to action on Sunday (Jan. 2), as the Flyers welcome No. 1 ranked Bellarmine to Neil Carey Arena for a 7:45 p.m. (CST) tip-off.
