Big Rapids, Mich. - The Lewis University men's tennis team put a scare into Ferris State, the No. 4 ranked team in the Midwest Region, on Saturday (Feb. 20) afternoon, but the host Bulldogs were able to turn away the Flyers' upset bid with the 5-4 non-conference victory at the FSU Racquet and Fitness Center.

Sophomore Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) and junior Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) each claimed two victories on the afternoon for the Flyers.

Lapimaa teamed up with sophomore Tonis Irdoja (Tallinn, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare Kool) at No. 1 doubles for the 8-3 win over FSU's Kyle Revall and Steven Roberts. Lapimaa would later upend Revall at No. 1 singles for the 6-2, 7-5 win.

Wojnarowski was paired up with junior Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboldtschule/Missouri Valley) for the 8-4 triumph over Jack Swan and Justin Hermes at No. 2 doubles. The Oak Lawn, Ill., native also claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win over Hermes at No. 4 singles.

With the victory, Ferris State improves to 1-0, while the Flyers drop to 3-2 on the campaign.

"I loved how we came out and performed in doubles, but unfortunately we weren't able to get the job done in singles play today," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said.

Lewis is back in action on Sunday (Feb. 21), as the Flyers head to Allendale, Michigan for a 1 PM (EST) showdown with the Midwest Region's No. 5 ranked team in Grand Valley State.

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields.
