Lahey's Gem Earns Baseball A 4-2 Win Over Findlay

Feb. 27, 2010

Box Score

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Sophomore Pat Lahey (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) earned the complete game victory in a 4-2 Lewis win over Findlay on Saturday afternoon.

Lahey went all nine innings allowing four hits and no walks. He struck out five and both of Findlay's runs were unearned as the Oilers scored two in the top of the first on three Lewis errors.

"Pat's performance was about as efficient as you could find," head coach Tim McDonough said. "He threw a lot of strikes and got ahead of hitters. He dictated the tempo and pitched through some early errors. He took it upon himself to shut Findlay down."

Lewis did all of their scoring in the fourth. Junior Tyler Newsome (Palos Heights, Ill./Marist/South Suburban CC), junior Miguel Amesquita (Hometown, Ill./Brother Rice/Triton) and sophomore Stephen Kaffel (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg/Butler) all singled to lead off the inning. Lewis scored their first run of the game when senior Ryan McManaman (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan) walked to force Newsome home. Freshman Zach Stetson (Kankakee, Ill./Herscher) grounded out to score Amesquita to knot the game up. The Flyers took the lead for good on a two-RBI single by senior Joe Carbone (Lemont, Ill./Lemont/Florida Gulf Coast University) that plated Kaffel and McManaman.

Amesquita finished 2-for-4, earning two of Lewis' six hits.

Lewis improves to 2-5. Findlay falls to 0-1. Lewis plays Gannon in a doubleheader on Sunday at noon.
