Springfield, Ill. - The end of a four-match losing streak hung in the balance for the Lewis University women's tennis team on Tuesday as the Flyers and Illinois-Springfield were tied at four apiece, and the pressure was placed squarely on the shoulders of Flyer freshman Jody Wagner (Avon, Ohio/Avon).

The rookie performed like a seasoned veteran and pulled out the 6-3, 6-3 win over UIS' Brooke Tweedy to clinch the 5-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference win over the host Prairie Stars. For good measure, Wagner also teamed with sophomore Maggie Novack (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) for the 8-0 whitewash over Tweedy and Claire Connor at No. 3 doubles.

"It was great to see the women pull off a win today," Lewis Assistant Women's Tennis Coach Chris Meyer said. "We haven't played in awhile and this is a good way to start the conference season."

Lewis junior Clare Kessler (Onalaska, Wis./Aquinas) was the only other Flyer to pick up a pair of wins, as she dropped Connor at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-3, and teamed up with Katie Hargrove (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) at No. 2 doubles for the 9-7 triumph over Rosanna Ramilo and Jane Brown.

Sophomore Bayley Brown (Evansville, Ill./Evansville Central) was the only other winner for Lewis on Tuesday, as she claimed the 6-3, 6-0 win over Ramillo at No. 3 singles.

The Flyers continue their GLVC slate on Saturday (March 27) morning, as they head to Rensselaer, Indiana to face St. Joseph's for a 10 AM first serve.

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields.
