Rensselaer, Ind. - Lewis University redshirt sophomore Uno Lapimaa (Tallinn, Estonia/Audentese) extended his singles winning streak to 14 matches to help the Flyers to the 9-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference road victory over Saint Joseph's (IN) on Saturday (March 27) afternoon.
"The guys are executing their shots and playing smart tennis," Lewis head men's tennis coach Brett Bridel said.
With the victory, Lewis improves to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in conference action, while the host Pumas drop to 5-9 on the season and 0-1 in GLVC play.
Lapimaa claimed the 6-0, 6-2 victory over Ishan Gohil at No. 1 singles and also teamed up with Tonis Irdoja (Tallin, Estonia/Rocca Al Mare Kool) at No. 1 doubles for the 8-4 triumph over Gohil and Miguel Becina. Irdoja picked up the 6-2, 6-0 win over Belcina at No. 2 singles.
At No. 2 doubles, juniors Michael Wojnarowski (Oak Lawn, Ill./Richards/Moraine Valley C.C.) and Lorenz Pestinger (Bad Homburg, Germany/Humboldtschule/Missouri Valley) garnered the 8-2 victory over Matt Slawson and Roger Michels. Wojnarowski upended Michael Goetz, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3 singles, while Pestinger earned the 6-2, 6-0 win over Slawson at No. 5 singles.
Freshmen Jesse Hardacre (Racine, Wis./St. Catherine's) and Brandon Tilton (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) defeated Ben Frankowski and Matt Williams at No. 3 doubles, 8-1. Hardacre would go on for the 6-0, 6-0 win over Michels at No. 4 singles, while senior Bret Mega (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) dropped Williams, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6 singles.
Lewis returns to action on Thursday (Apr. 1), as the Flyers head to St. Louis to square off with Maryville for a 1 PM first serve.
