LOS ANGELES - No. 5 UCLA earned a bit of revenge for their loss to Lewis last season by sweeping the No. 15 Flyers 30-22, 30-27, 30-25 on Wednesday evening at Pauley Pavilion.

The second set was the tightest. Back-to-back kills by senior Nathan Klaas (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) gave Lewis a 20-16 lead. The Flyers held the same four-point advantage at 23-19 when the Bruins called their final timeout. The pause in the action paid off as UCLA followed with six consecutive points. Junior Brian Schmidt (River Forest, Ill./Oak Park/River Forest) had a kill to bring Lewis within one at 28-27, but UCLA took the set with a pair of points.

Klaas led Lewis with 10 kills. Junior Brian Muesenfechter (St. Louis, Mo./Christian Brothers) had seven kills. Senior Rikki Garma (Lihue, Hawaii/Ost) added seven digs.

UCLA out-hit Lewis .400 to .135.

"Moose (Muesenfechter) was pretty good tonight, but we're just too up and down right now," head coach Dan Friend said. "Right now we're just not consistent enough."

Lewis falls to 10-4. UCLA improves to 10-8. The Flyers are at Cal Baptist on Friday.

A Catholic university sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Lewis offers nearly 80 undergraduate majors and programs of study, accelerated degree completion options for working adults, various aviation programs and 22 graduate programs in nine fields. The 9th largest private, not-for-profit university in Illinois is being honored for the sixth consecutive year by The Princeton Review and U.S. News & World Report.
