Women's Golf Improves 16 Strokes During Day Two Of Loyola Invitational

EVANSTON, Ill. - Freshman Nicole Tucker (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Preparatory) finished the two-day Loyola Invitational at the Evanston Golf Course on Monday tied for 15th (83-82=165). The Flyers were the only non-Division I team in the eight-team tournament. Lewis finished in sixth (353-337=690).

Freshman Carly Shapiro (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) followed a 91 on Sunday with an 82 on Monday to shoot a 173 and tie for 30th.

Freshman Vanessa Phillips (Metamora, Ill./Metamora Township) tied for 36th (88-87=175). Senior Carly Keeler (New Albany, Ind./New Albany) improved on her opening round 94 with an 86 on day two. Her 180 total tied her for 40th. Senior Britta Halpin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and shot a 91-90=181 to tie for 42nd.

"Nicole and Carly (Shaprio) played well today and the women held their own with Division I competition," head coach Skip Steffey said.

Two Flyers were playing as individuals. Junior Courtney Kellogg (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) tied for 42nd with an 89-92=181. Junior Courtney Everett (Palos Park, Ill/Stagg) totaled a 93-89=182 to rank 45th.

Western Illinois (318-307=625) won the tournament.

Lewis hosts the Aviator Classic at Prairie Bluff Golf Course on Sunday and Monday.
