ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis swept Quincy Friday night 25-12, 25-21, 25-17 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match at Neil Carey Arena. The victory marked the 250th GLVC victory in the program's history.
Sophomore Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township/Nova Southeastern) led Lewis with six kills as seven Flyers had four kills or more.
The Flyers jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first set forcing Quincy to take an early timeout. Senior Rachel Ruedi (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet Seymour) tacked on another four points from the service line to extend the lead to 9-0. Lewis continued their lead for the remainder of the set, winning 25-12. The Flyers outblocked the Lady Hawks 6-0 in the opening frame while hitting .440 to Quincy's -.083.
The second set opened in a 5-5 tie before freshman Katie Lindsey (Jacksonville, Ill./Routt Catholic) served nine straight points from the service line with three aces, extending the Lewis lead to 14-5.
The third set was more of the same, with Lewis never trailing in the final frame.
"One of our goals is when we get everybody in is that the communication level goes up," head coach Lorelee Smith said. "I thought we did a good job of focusing on that tonight."
The Flyers held Quincy to 20 kills and held a 10-2 advantage in blocks.
Lewis improves to 11-1 (3-0 GLVC) while the Hawks drop to 2-10 and 0-3 in conference action.
The Flyers return to action tomorrow afternoon as they welcome Illinois-Springfield for a 3 p.m. first serve.
