AURORA, Ill. – Mark it down. When Grand Valley State and Lewis women's volleyball play each other, it is going five. On Saturday the Lakers and No. 21 Flyers played their fourth consecutive five set match against each other. Lewis rallied to win the contest 20-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-14, 16-14. The match was the third and final contest for Lewis in the GLIAC/GLVC Crossover. The tournament features every team from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

Grand Valley rolled through the Flyers in the first two sets thanks to an 11-0 run in the first set and a 7-0 run in the second. Lewis inserted junior middle hitter Carly Perschnick (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township) (Dwight, Ill./Dwight Township/Nova Southeastern), redshirt sophomore setter Vivian Pritz (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township) (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Township/Edinboro) and redshirt freshman outside hitter Kim Vertin (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) into the lineup and the Flyers' offense took off. Lewis hit .485, .500 and .346 in in the final three sets, respectively. Lewis recorded just one hitting error in each of the final three sets.

While Lewis won easily in sets three and four, the fifth set was a nail bitter. The Lakers came out quickly by grabbing a 7-4 edge. Grand Valley held an 11-8 advantage when the Flyers asked for time. The break worked for Lewis as the Flyers scored the next three points to knot the score at 11. Junior Colleen Mitros (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) had a solo block in the stretch. A Vertin kill tied it at 13 before sophomore Amy Choi (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) (Vernon Hills, Ill./Vernon Hills) came up with an ace to give the Flyers match point at 14-13. Grand Valley's Eno Umoh fended it off with a kill. However a quick kill by senior Hannah Koeneman (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan)  (New Haven, Ind./Woodlan) gave Lewis the advantage again. The Flyers then won the match on a kill by senior Danielle Mount (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport).

Pritz finished with 33 assists, nine digs and six kills. Koeneman led Lewis with 14 kills. Perschnick hit .421 with nine kills. Vertin hit .353 with eight kills. Mount added 11 kills and seven blocks (five solo). Mount was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Lewis improves to 15-5. Grand Valley falls to 9-10.

The GLVC posted a 29-19 record in the event to win the 2011 Crossover. It's the second consecutive victory for the GLVC in the Crossover after the GLIAC won the first two events.

The Flyers return to competition on Thursday for a non-conference match at  Kentucky State.
