ALLENDALE, Mich. – Lewis women's swimming opened the 2011-12 season on Friday evening at Grand Valley State with a 198-37 setback.
“With so many freshmen it was good to get those first meet jitters out of the way and get their first meet under their belts,” head coach
Roger Karns said. “We had some nice swims and we learned a few things we need to work on. I think both the men and women are dedicated to improving from here.”
Freshman
Katie Hallenbeck (Plano, Ill./Plano) (Plano, Ill./Plano) took second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:46.81.
“She took second, but Katie swam a really nice 400 IM,” Karns said.
She also finished third in the 100 butterfly (1:00.45), less than a second behind the first place finisher.
Junior
Angela Cusack (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) finished third in the 100 freestyle by touching the wall in 56.59.
The Flyers have a quick turnaround as they host Hillsdale on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Lewis' first home meet.
