ROMEOVILLE, Ill. –
No. 20 Lewis women's volleyball swept Great Lakes Valley Conference foe UW-Parkside on Tuesday evening at Neil Carey Arena. The 25-23, 25-23, 25-17 victory avenges a five set loss at UW-Parkside in September.

Senior Danielle Mount (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) (Crest Hill, Ill./Lockport) continued her impressive play with 15 kills and four blocks (two solo). Mount was most impressive in the second set when she scored four consecutive points after UW-Parkside tied the score at 14. She had with five kills and two solo blocks in the second set alone.

“I'm proud to see her (Danielle) grow into the player we both knew she could be,” head coach Lorelee Smith said. “When you can have a five-year senior take control like she can it takes a lot of pressure off the rest of the team.”

While Lewis won the first two sets by the slimmest of margins, a 7-0 run in the middle of game three with freshman Leigh Barea (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) (Battle Creek, Mich./Harper Creek) serving was enough for the Flyers to pull away early.

UW-Parkside hit .257 in the opening frame but hit just .050 and .037 in the second and third sets, respectively.

Barea finished with 38 assists and eight digs. Junior Jillian Carlberg (Urbandale, Iowa/Waukee) (Urbandale, Iowa/Waukee) hit .500 with seven kills and eight blocks (one solo).

UW-Parkside falls to 13-13 (9-5 GLVC). The Flyers are now 19-5 (11-3 GLVC). Lewis is tied for third in the ultra-competitive GLVC East Division, only a match behind division leaders Indianapolis and Southern Indiana. The Flyers play at Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday before traveling to Southern Indiana on Saturday.
