Complete game notes

Lewis women's basketball (0-1) hosts McKendree (4-1) in the Flyers' 2011-12 home opener. Tip is set for 7 p.m. on Monday at Neil Carey Arena.

WON'T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR? - Lewis fans should get used to seeing McKendree at Neil Carey Arena because McKendree will be an official GLVC member in 2013-14. The Bearcats however will be on all GLVC schedules next season in a non-conference capacity.

FROM WAY DOWNTOWN - Lewis made 11-of-24 3-point attempts on Saturday at Ferris State. The total matches last year's high of 11 3-pointers against Drury in the GLVC Tournament. The Flyers had a pair of 10 3-pointer games last season. They came in back-to-back games, Dec. 2 at Maryville and Dec. 4 at UMSL.

100 STEALS - With her lone steal on Saturday evening at McKendree, Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) now has exactly 100 steals in her career.

SHE'S A FRESHMAN - Jamie Johnson (South Holland, Ill./Marian Catholic) scored nine points and recorded five steals in her first career collegiate contest on Saturday at Ferris State.

CAREER BEST - Madeline Kish (Oak Forest, Ill./Sandburg)'s 16 points at Ferris State on Saturday was a career high.

THAT'S A ROAD TRIP - Following Lewis' next game on Friday at Upper Iowa, the Flyers will next be in action on Nov. 24 and 25 in Hawaii. Lewis will play BYU-Hawaii and Northeastern State.

COUNTING DOWN TO HISTORY - Lewis' contest against Northeastern State will be the 1000th game in Lewis women's basketball history.

LOOKING BACK - Lewis used a thrilling postseason run last year to win the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship and earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament. The Flyers upset four higher seeds to win the championship. First up was an overtime victory at Missouri S&T in which the Flyers rallied from a nine-point deficit with less than three minutes remaining in the game. The Flyers never held a lead until the overtime session. Lewis then defeated Drury, UW-Parkside and Indianapolis to win the title, three teams the Flyers lost to during the regular season. The Flyers earned the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Midwest Regional, losing to eventual National Runner-Up Michigan Tech in the opening round.

BIG SHOES TO FILL - Senior point guard Kady Currin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) and senior forward Jenny Turpel (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) fueled Lewis' run to the 2010-11 GLVC Championship. Both earned GLVC All-Tournament Team honors with Turpel being named the MVP. Currin played all 165 minutes of the tournament. Currin graduated ranked second in free throw percentage (.815), fourth in 3-point percentage (.387), seventh in 3-pointers made (110) and seventh in assists (408) at Lewis. Turpel graduated ranked second in career made field goals (745), second in blocked shots (123), third in rebounds (805), fourth in points (1,819), fifth in field goal percentage (.491) and sixth in scoring average (15.7) at Lewis.
