ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis women's basketball recorded 11 blocks, the most during the
Lisa Carlsen era, in the Flyers' 64-57 loss to McKendree on Monday evening at Neil Carey Arena. The non-conference contest was the 2011-12 home opener for the Flyers.
The Flyers found open looks against the Bearcats but struggled to finish in the paint. Lewis finished the contest with a 28.8 percent (21-of-73) shooting percentage.
“I thought we got good shots but we didn't put them in the basket,” Carlsen said. “Unfortunately that's going to make you work that much harder on the other end and you can't afford breakdowns.”
Lewis kept the deficit to under double-digits for most of the second half by dominating the offensive glass. The Flyers turned their 18 offensive rebounds into 20 points.
Sophomore
Lauren Mead (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) finished with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds while adding four blocks.
Senior
Madeline Kish (Oak Forest, Ill./Sandburg) (Oak Forest, Ill./Sandburg/Eastern Illinois) earned a career-high five blocks with eight rebounds and seven points. Junior
Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) totaled 13 points and seven rebounds. Freshman
Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) provided 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench on 4-of-7 shooting.
McKendree finished the final 4:01 of the first half on a 9-3 run to take a 31-25 lead into the break. Lewis cut the lead to three with under a minute remaining in the game but McKendree held serve at the free throw line and put the game away.
McKendree improves to 5-1. Lewis falls to 0-2. The Flyers hit the road on Friday for a non-conference tilt at Upper Iowa. Friday's contest has a 7 p.m. start.
