Lewis Women's Basketball Defeats BYU-Hawaii 81-62

Flyers conclude tournament on Friday

HONOLULU – Lewis opened the 2011 Oahu Classic with an 81-62 victory over BYU-Hawaii on Thursday (Nov. 24) afternoon at McKinley High School. The win was the 100th career victory for Lewis head coach Lisa Carlsen.
 
Junior Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) led Lewis with 16 points. Freshman Jess Reinhart (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) (Normal, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) and sophomore Alexus Grayer (Washington, Ill./Washington) (Washington, Ill./Washington) added 13. Freshman Kristen Itschner (Metamora, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) pitched in 12 points.
 
The Flyers recorded 22 assists while grabbing 20 offensive rebounds. Lewis shot 43 percent from the floor.
 
“It was a great team win,” Carlsen said. “We had a lot of players do some nice things. It was a good way to start the classic.”
 
BYU-Hawaii falls to 0-1. The Flyers improve to 2-2. Lewis plays their final game in Hawaii on Friday against No. 19 Northeastern State (Okla.) at 5 p.m. HT (9 p.m. CT).
