PORTLAND, Mich. – The Lewis women's basketball team dropped a non-conference decision to No. 7 Michigan Tech 70-52 on Friday afternoon. The game was played at the neutral site of Portland High School in Portland. Mich.
Lewis responded from an early 12-3 deficit to pull within one at 16-15 with 8:20 remaining in the first half. Both teams went cold from the floor as the next point came on Michigan Tech free throws at 6:06. The next field goal came at 4:05 on a layup by Michigan Tech's Lindsey Lindstrom. The Huskies then scored the first seven points of the second half to pull away.
Sophomore
Lauren Mead (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) (Wauconda, Ill./Wauconda) and junior
Labrenthia Murdock (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) (Round Lake, Ill./Round Lake) each scored 10 points for Lewis. Michigan Tech was led by 28 points from Lynn Giesler.
The Flyers shot 27.1 percent (16-of-59). Michigan Tech finished with a 47.5 percentage (28-of-59).
“Tech shot better because they took better shots than us,” head coach
Lisa Carlsen said.
Michigan Tech improves to 8-3. Lewis falls to 3-7. The Flyers return to action on Thursday for a conference contest at Maryville. Start time is 5:15 p.m.
