Box Score ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Junior Jason Genova drained a season-best six 3-pointers on his way to his second 28-point effort in the last three games, as Lewis defeated Olivet Nazarene 73-65, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at Neil Carey Arena.
After missing seven of his first nine shots from the field, Genova hit six of his final nine, including four second-half treys and a 6-of-6 showing at the foul line. His six 3-pointers paced the Flyers' to their best long-distance shooting performance of the season (12-of-22), and his 28 points matched his season high set last Saturday in a win over Rockhurst.
Junior Ryan Sharp added three treys, totaling a season-high 11 points, and freshman Dennis Thomas, Jr. was a perfect 2-of-2 from beyond the arc, hitting both of his shots late in the first half as Lewis rallied from six points down.
Olivet Nazarene proved just as efficient as Lewis from beyond the arc, hitting 12-of-21 from 3-point range. Two of those came from junior Josh Bronke. He hit a three with five minutes to play in the first half which put the Tigers up by six points, their biggest lead of the game.
From there, however, it was all Lewis. The Flyers connected for four 3-pointers from three different players to close the half on a 16-5 run.
Thomas Jr. hit the first two triples to cut into the Tigers' lead, but then Sharp put Lewis up for good when he took a feed from senior Stephan Bolt and hit for three with 1:49 to play in the half. Senior Dustin Warfield sunk one more Flyer trey to put Lewis up by five heading into the break.
Sharp gave Lewis its first double-digit lead of the afternoon when he hit another three at 14:45 of the second, and the Flyers maintained a comfortable advantage the rest of the way, leading by 17 at one point.
The Flyers shot 50.1 percent for the game, compared to 45.3 by the Tigers. Lewis also made 13-of-18 from the free throw line while limiting the Tigers to 5-of-8 at the stripe. Lewis held the edge on the glass, 28-21.
Sharp's 11-point game also included four assists and three rebounds. Bolt and freshman Lonnie Lawrence each collected a team-best six rebounds. Bolt added seven points and four assists, while Lawrence scored five points. Warfield wound up with eight points. Senior Matt Marino had six points.
Bronke was one of three Tigers in double figures in scoring. He and senior Phil French each scored 11 points. French also posted a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Ryan Paxson led the Tigers with 17 points, hitting 5-of-7 from 3-point range.
The Flyers (6-1) will look to make it four wins in a row when they return to action on Dec. 18 at Winona State.
