ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis swept conference-foe Bellarmine 30-23, 30-18, 30-15 on Friday night for the Flyers' 26th victory of the season. The win sets a rally scoring era record for victories in a season, topping the 25 victories the 2002 and 2006 teams posted.
The Flyers' current .897 win percentage is the best in school history. It tops 2002's .833 (25-5), 1981's .813 (51-11-2) and 2006's .807 (25-6).
Lewis improved to 26-3 overall and 16-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Lewis honored setter Andrea Morrone, outside/middle hitter Sylvia Ciezak, defensive specialist Jackie Eichorst and assistant coach David Heller on Senior Night.
Eichorst recorded three digs, two assists and one service ace, seeing action in all three games.
Ciezak hit .571 with four kills and no errors. She also added three assisted blocks and one assist.
Morrone had a match-high 40 assists and hit .444 with four kills. She also added eight digs.
Sophomore Stephanie Sagat recorded a match-high 12 kills and a Flyers' high 10 digs. Freshman Lauren Seliga added 11 kills.
The closest the Knights would came to winning a game was the first, when they rallied from a 20-9 deficit to within three of the Flyers at 26-23. However the Flyers would score the next four points, including a senior-to-senior connection of Eichorst notching an assist on Morrone's kill to end the game.
In the second game the Flyers used a 6-0 run to turn a 16-13 lead into a commanding nine-point advantage.
The Flyers out-hit the Knights .358 to .118, including a dominating .433 to .200 advantage in the third game.
Bellarmine fell to 11-17 (6-12 GLVC). Katie Willinger had a team-high 11 kills for the Knights.
Lewis' victory clinched the East Division No. 2 seed in the GLVC Tournament.
The Flyers play their final regular season match of the season tomorrow against No. 23 Northern Kentucky. Start time is 3 p.m. at Neil Carey Arena.
