INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After a standout weekend at the Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover Tournament, senior Sarah Newberry (Fairfield, Ohio/Stephen T Badin) was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday (Oct. 19).
Newberry is the first Flyer to earn a weekly conference award since Elena Gubera (Jamestown, Ind./Western Boone) was named GLVC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 20, 2025. Newberry also earned a spot on the Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover All-Tournament Team earlier this week.
Over the weekend, Newberry recorded 37 kills and 13 total blocks while posting a .484 overall hitting percentage with just two errors across three matches. The Fairfield, Ohio, native opened the tournament with 14 kills and five blocks against Northern Michigan, hitting .520.
Against Ashland, Newberry committed no errors while recording 15 kills and a season-best .577 hitting percentage. She closed the weekend against Walsh with a season-high 18 kills, seven total blocks to tie her season high, four digs and a .405 hitting percentage in Lewis' 3-1 victory.
The Flyers return to GLVC play when they travel to St. Louis to face UMSL on Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.
